SEGA Saturn discoveries and woes...

This is a V-Saturn that I got a few months back. The seller wasnt sure whether it was modchipped to play backups. So its time to open her up and see what secrets she is hiding...

And immediately an intercepting circuit can be seen between the motherboard and the cd-drive. This is a typical modification where the chip fools the drive into accepting bootleg/burn copies of games. Nice. However it does not allow the machine to play games outside of the Japanese region (but those are crap anyway...) and from the handy work, the modder decided that the ribbon cable tensile strength is a good enough shielding solution for the modchip. Sloppy at best.

Furthermore, I think he/she made a mistake regarding voltage for the modchip as there is residual solder and char marks on the higher amperage 5V power terminal. Bad. And decided to directly solder the wire to the correct power terminal...hope the power supply holds for a while or it will get messy removing it.

This is a power supply from my other Shiro (white) Saturn, the seller shipped it with an identically shaded power cord which plugs into the local 240V supply and said its powered so. However, it did work for a couple of minutes before a pop and smoke pyrotecnics event happened. So I opened her up and sure enough the power supply was for 100V and the capacitor copped the extra voltage. The fuse did not blow strange enough?! So now I am awaiting a replacement power supply to bring her back to full functionality. The Saturn can limp with this power supply, but the images voltage (along side other components) will have power fluctuations since the capacitor has been compromised. The good news is I can interchange the supply with a local 240V model2 Saturn one and bypass the need for a stepdown transformer. Yay!

Got a PSX to Saturn converter!

Also known as Tototek PSX to Saturn converter. This will allow my playstation accessories, namely arcade sticks or SONY Dualshock pcbs, to work on the SEGA Saturn. There is no region limitation as far as I know and it is also lag less so that is a major plus. So far, I only have one converter and plan to get more as people sell them in the forums.

Strikers 1945 board for fanservice...

It seems Psikyo has a thing about making their game "sexier" than it has to be, thumbs up to transforming buildings/ships to robots though...

These are quite nice photos captured by Nick Zverloff at Hardcore Gaming 101, credits to you bud!

Hope no one is around when the ending rolls...

SEGA Blast City with minor issue...

I have recently procured a Blast City with a possible loss of green, it was cheap so I could not pass it up. Unfortunately it does not come with Tekken4, but I do get those plastic stools!! She looks pretty clean and I am confident that the missing green should be easy to troubleshoot.

Slogged through Hyper Anniversary CPS2 board with Champion Edition Ken.

The process was all about precision as the computer allows at most 3 mistakes before it takes you down. So its pretty much a hadouken/shoryuken affair. I think I will try Chun Li next and hope for the best. Shown is the ending for Ken...which reminds me, I need to plan my own wedding soon.

Second SLG HD (YUV) unit get!

Got it for a fair price from a shmup forum member, the scanlines generated by one of these is lighter than that from the slg3000/slgmini, so the results will vary according to how the TV/Monitor is tuned. Will try to piggyback the 12V from somewhere else instead of finding a plug for the adapter.

Windjammers lock and loaded...

Got the old Neo cart out for some games with the local fighting forum group, probably only one person knows the true power of this game. It is basically PONG on steroids...future steroids complete with racial cliches.

Inaugral gaming with cousin, a change of spots and also a discourse on SF2:CE M5.

Just packing up after a session with my cousins. I manage to trouble shoot some control panel issues and now all the machines buttons and joysticks input register. Working on one machine is troublesome but 12 is a little bit maddening. Thanks to my cousins, the playtest proved to be invaluable.

I have adjusted the hologen spots towards the walls to reflect the light off it as well as planning some arcade poster prints to make the room more colourful. I intend to use online resourced to make prints that I can hang up.

My DIY holder for my S3 for taking youtube videos lol...

The ladies of the house got me an awesome tool box for all my bits and bobs. Now I dont have to worry about the box ripping on me!

And a video of me playing some bootleg street fighter board as I try to figure out how to do the Blanka electricity sonic boom spewing magnet attack!

Suffice to say I am a bit disturbed about Chun Li's spinning bird kick as she is obviously spinning on her head now like a break dancer darting from one side of the screen to the other AND shooting sonic booms from her crotch...nasty..time to hit that start button.

Power, Video and Audio all OK!

Finally mustered the courage to turn EVERYTHING on at once, its all good!

Here are some stills of the action:

This is from the entrance, my pc serves as a juke box that powers the amp for the ceiling speakers.

I have my 14" PVM running off a modded xbox1. Will probably replace it with a Japanese Saturn soon.

One of the NAOMI is running Otomedius..

And the other is running SSF4...I prefer older revisions though. Twin Eagle is running on the TATE New Astro and SideArms on the YOKO New Astro.

The 2P end of the Versus City. Finally found a good use for the $5 poster I got!

19XX is running on the PONY...love that metal bastard! Hanging off it is my SONY control tower style pc mic/headphone. The microphone piece off it is huge, feel like an extra from a 70's sci-fi movie when using it.

Still got a couple posters to hang up. Some from CAPCOM others from SNK. I doubt I will put up anything PLAYSTATION related though.

I haven't finished wiring up the control panels of most of the cabinets so that will be my next project.

That's all for now, hopefully can get some people in for a few sessions. Happy gaming folks :D

Versus cities in the house...and final casualties of the move.

Couple of friends and I moved the two versus city cabinets to the game room. Will probably take me a couple of nights to put it back together again.

So, in summary, the total casualties of the recolation and build was 1 x boxed EX-SE stick and 1 x boxed JTAG 360 60Gig Xenon console...both of which I can not account for but have at least 2 of anyway so I think I got off lightly in terms of the notorious building theft that goes on here and also a strained back which has just got right after 2 days of medication and rest.

Some tidy up for weekend move

Managed to shift some items across the room to clear for impeding versus city cabinets. Luckily everything is still in boxes.

Had some street fighter playing to keep room sounding good. I also found a temporary spot for the 3rd strike mdf poster.

OKBaby back in action!

Just finish fitting in 5 candy cabinets in the roof section and I like the look. I finished reassembling the mame Naomi universal as well but a bit hesitant to start her up, maybe in a couple of days. At this rate, I will have all my cabinets running in 2 weeks time.
Sagat approves, just need to degause it sometime.
