Let the cull...begin!

Like most things in life, you need to make decisions to make sense of things. For me, its deciding what to keep and what to let go from the monitor haul. The 3 sets that made the cut is the 2 x 20" Ikegami monitors and also the composite only Panasonic.

The first monitor on the test bench (or floor in this case) is one of the Ikegami. It has controller modules similar to the BVM. So I was expecting some knock out picyure quality.

The picture quality is pretty clean and vibrant, which made me wonder whether the monitor was used at all?? I further tuned the pictures on this set and now its on par with , dare I say, the BVM.

Next I tuned the other Ikegami with the MVS cross hatch. All the control on this unit is on the chassis itself, so I had to open it up and adjust it. The points for adjustment was well labeled so I had no trouble getting it to look mint. The colour is probably about 5-8% less vibrant than the BVM but certainly better than the DSE and older PVM monitor I have of the equivalent size.

Finally, I moved on the Panasonic...what can I say about composite that everyone else has already experienced. It is a competent PAL monitor as the NTSC variant it accepts is the rare M one. So the only practical use for it is for PAL sources. I really dig the 80's look and the headphone jack with the pop in pop out dial for volume and that is about it. A solid monitor for PAL gamers sitting at least 2M away from the display.

So, you want to be an actress do you??

Just recently took delivery of a whole lot of broadcast monitors from a friend. I have yet to test them, but I am excited about 2 of them from Ikegami.

I transfered the lot into the lair for further investigation. Some of the tubes has burn in from "Parliament TV"and "TV3".

Will update later...

Items received~

I recently purchased another 1/48 scale YAMATO Macross figure, this time its the VF-1J. The condition of this one is much better than the VF-1S, the inner box is sealed from what I can tell..none of the sticker decal has been used.

This is the prime figure to use with the armour set and they have improved the hands as well so its more in line with the anime rather than the anaemic small hands with the earlier revisions.

Pretty "Handy"aint it?

Next I took delivery of 2 x PCB from trademe. Interesting packaging...

This took me by surprise, nice...good to be on ones' toes.

Very well packaged as you can see.

Board #1, the faint label does elude it is a copy of The New Zealand Story

Board #2 looks to be a little dustier, but looks the part except for a minor scratch on the bottom of the board.

Two Kiwis with 1 bid, its The New Zealand Story in New Zealand.

I think just for the irony of the purchase is reason enough for me to buy these. I got them from Trademe and awaiting delivery. Both sold as untested so I am not sure what I am getting myself into, but for TNZS I think its worth the punt.

Mizoguchi WINS

I decided to playthrough Fighters History after washing the car on Sunday. I picked Mizoguchi because I can spam his rekka kick to chip damage the CPU and it has a good buffer zone should the CPU block the string of attacks. I can not emphasise the importance of throws in this game enough. The bosses are push overs compared to CAPCOM and SNK offerings.

Baked Potato...I mean, Fighter History: The game that ruffled CAPCOMs feathers

Little did Data East know the follow game will land them a court date with Capcom over copyright infringements.

A mediocre but competent fighting game with the Data East flavour to it. Mainly the voice samples, which were very progressive back in the days. Especially with chinese pronounciation of special moves...felt like an IGS developed game.

The best engrish pronounciation of American fighter Ray always crack me up. Baked Potato!
